I catch my kids saying, “What is HAppening?!” in an exasperated tone – and their facial expression, well, mirrors their tone. It’s really funny actually—they are 5 and 3. The baby can’t talk yet but I imagine he will pick that up from his siblings as time goes on.

It’s really funny actually—they are 5 and 3. The baby can’t talk yet but I imagine he will pick that up from his siblings as time goes on.

And I know that the older ones have picked that up from me. Yes, me. Sometimes I look at my crazy house and say, “What is HAppening?!” Or someone is driving crazy on the road…”What is HAppening?!” It never fails I hear two sweet voices echoing me from the back of the van.

I said it again last week, “What is HAppening?” But this time it was in response to Hurricane Matthew.

It has hit Haiti and now the US. This year has been incredible for storms.

In the last 12 months, South Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, California, Alberta, West Virginia, and Minnesota, are just a few states/provinces that have been hit by floods and storms. And I’ve just about lost count how many times in the last year I’ve heard, “this is historic flooding.”

Now here comes Hurrricane Matthew.

But I cling to a promise. I cling to the fact that we have a faith that is bigger than our fears, bigger than our feelings, bigger than any hurricane, fire, or flood.

I am so humbled and thankful to be a part of the ministry of World Renew, extending support in Christ’s name to those who have lost so much.

The chorus to the song below is one that I run through my mind often:

The same power that rolled the stone away
The same power alive in us today
King Jesus we call upon Your Name
No other Name.

  – 'Shout Hosanna' by Passion, featuring Kristian Stanfill

Can we all take a moment to try and wrap our minds around what this means? That power is.in.us.

It means we can weather any storm, ANY storm. See also Romans 8:11.

Jeremiah 31:3-5 says:

I have loved you with an everlasting love;
    I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
I will build you up again,
    and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt.
Again you will take up your timbrels
    and go out to dance with the joyful.
Again you will plant vineyards
    on the hills of Samaria;
the farmers will plant them
    and enjoy their fruit.

No matter what HAppens. We will be rebuilt. We will dance again. We will be restored.

My husband and I are teaching our kids that no matter what, Jesus is what has HAppened.

Can I get an AMEN?!
