Start helping families around the world live cleaner, healthier lives today.
Community health is vital in the development of a community as a whole. It affects every aspect of a community and its impacts are significant.
The healthier a community is, the more self-reliant it can become, and the better its prospects are for growth.
From training programs about sustainable agricultural practices and nutrition to gender justice programs focusing on women’s health and maternal health, our goal at World Renew is to help make communities as self-sufficient as possible.
Self-reliance is the ultimate road to transformation for a community, and with your help we can make an impact.
The consequences of neglecting community health
- Negative health outcomes – Poor nutrition and sanitation can contribute to the spread of diseases and infections, leading to high child mortality rates that can cripple the development capacity of a community.
- Poor child development and malnutrition – Children are particularly vulnerable to health issues. Malnutrition can lead to stunted growth and hindered cognitive development. As children are the future of a community the effects of this are catastrophic.
- Lack of economic bonds – Poor living conditions mean individuals are forced to simply survive their daily struggles, leaving little opportunities to work or sell goods to improve their situation in a community.
Maternal & Child Health
Every child deserves a chance at a healthy start in life, and every mother needs access to proper healthcare during her pregnancy and childbirth.
The health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children determines the future of a community, and should be a time for celebration. In reality, in vulnerable communities, women and children are among the most vulnerable groups to contracting health problems.
We focus on providing community members with a way to contact and acquire affordable healthcare especially maternal care like prenatal and postnatal visits. We also provide health education programs that teach communities about proper food and nutrition, including the benefits of exclusively breastfeeding babies, having adequate diet diversity, and the importance of sanitation for disease prevention.
Living with HIV
Treatments for HIV and AIDS have developed dramatically over the last few decades, with advancements that have now allowed people to exceed their expected life spans that were once defined by the diseases.
Before, being diagnosed with HIV or AIDS was considered a death sentence. Today, people who can access proper healthcare are able to live long and healthy fulfilling lives however this is yet to be realized in many lower-income countries.
We work with communities affected by HIV to help them take control over their own health, as well as their loved ones. We facilitate access to health clinics to help improve and maintain their health, as well as providing training programs to help educate and break down the stigma and discrimination surrounded HIV and AIDS.
Water & Sanitation
Clean water and proper sanitation are one of the core pillars of community health. Unfortunately even these basic needs are often not met in many places around the world.
Aside from being crucial to our survival, clean and sustainable access to clean water and proper sanitation practices also helps communities avoid diseases, and improve their crop yields thus helping them rise out of poverty.
We work with communities to help them gain better access to clean water, latrines, and proper sanitation, as well as providing educational programs about the importance of both to ensure communities can raise their quality of living among themselves.
Impact in Honduras
Five years of punishing drought and excessive rain have left millions across Central America’s “dry corridor” food insecure.
World Renew works to improve access to health services for vulnerable communities through our partners, providing communities with help through our health volunteers and traditional birth attendants.
