MYANMAR EARTHQUAKES

On March 28, two powerful earthquakes devastated Myanmar. Tremors and ongoing impacts have been felt in neighbouring countries like Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Laos.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN MYANMAR?

Death and injury tolls continue to rise following two earthquakes that rocked central Myanmar. Measuring 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes have left families in communities across Myanmar and in neighbouring countries dealing with the heartbreak of loss of loved ones, the collapse of homes, and the destruction of infrastructure.

Before the earthquakes hit, Myanmar was struggling with ongoing conflict, with civilians facing extreme protection risks, acute food insecurity, the near collapse of critical public services, and a crumbling economy. Now, needs have become increasingly great, and families are faced with uncertainty yet again.
