The First 1,000 Days

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are the most important. But in communities experiencing extreme poverty, access to healthcare can be a challenge for pregnant mothers and babies. Together, we can help ensure that babies born into poverty get a healthy start.

FIRST 1,000 DAYS

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life are the most important. But in communities experiencing extreme poverty, access to healthcare can be a challenge for pregnant mothers and babies. Together, we can help ensure that babies born into poverty get a healthy start.

What are the first 1,000 days?

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life span from a mother’s pregnancy to age two. This period is critical for growth and development and can have life-long effects on overall health. Children who receive proper nutrition and care in the first 1,000 days have a better chance of a healthy future. World Renew works to provide healthcare, child nutrition, and classes for parents during the first 1,000 days and beyond.

How we help

Healthcare

We train community health volunteers to help babies and moms access pre- and post-natal care, including monitoring babies’ growth.

Nutrition

We help babies by teaching parents about proper nutrition, encouraging breastfeeding, and helping families access vitamins and healthy foods as their child grows.

Education & Support

We support moms and dads through parenting classes, nutrition workshops, and home visits from health volunteers.

Renewing Hope: Changing Stories of Poverty

“The mother and child health program brings many benefits because the children are weighed, and if a child is underweight, they are given milk [supplements]. . . We’ve also received [nutrition kits] with deworming tablets and vitamins. Before the program, we had to buy medicine, but today is different because we receive the medicine at no cost [through the program].”
