Nearly $700,000 (CAD) was received in support of World Renew’s response to this crisis. And with matching funds from the Government of Canada your donations will help even more people.
Here’s a reminder of how the matches work:
- For every $1 donated to World Renew’s famine and drought response by Canadians, the Canadian Government will put $1 into its own Famine Relief Fund. The funds will be used to help hungry families through the selected agencies that Global Affairs Canada will determine later.
- Most importantly for World Renew, your donation will also be matched, up to four times through our membership at the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, meaning even more hungry families will benefit!
This means that the $700,000 could grow up to five times to support families who do not have enough to eat!
For a family like Regina’s, this might be the difference between life and death.
Regina and her family, like many others, rely on their own crops for food and an income. However, this year drought has devastated the crops and left Regina’s family hungry. World Renew is providing lifesaving food assistance to Regina and thousands of others throughout Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Nigeria.
Before World Renew stepped in, Regina and her children often went days without eating. Many nights they went to bed hungry and they had few ways to improve their circumstance. They were trapped.
Thankfully the generous support of people like you means that there is hope.
As she carries the heavy bags of food and seeds back home to her family, she does so with incredible joy and thankfulness. “I’m very happy to have this gift of food. I am used to going to sleep hungry these days,” Regina shared. “I grow maize and other vegetables, and I work in my garden. But if I get sick, I can’t work to get money. It’s hard to make it from month to month especially when the fields are so dry. It’s hard to even think of needs like clothes for me or my family when you don’t even have any food to eat. This assistance will make sure I have food at least once a day. My children will be very excited when they see me come home with this food!”
Thank you for your continued partnership with the work of World Renew as we respond to this enormous crisis.
Please pray for Regina and other families who are unsure where there next meal might come from. And please continue to give generously.
