Healed and Fulfilled in Senegal
Aissatou is a 30-year-old woman living in the region of Linguère, where she is a member of the women’s group in her village. It was through this group she learned about the Healthy Families and Communities Program, led by World Renew partner Senegalese Lutheran Development Services (SLDS). One day Aissatou sat in on a discussion about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) facilitated by program leader Mrs. Mariame Hanne. It led to a realization: “When Mariame was talking about the symptoms, it was as if she was describing my own health issues,” Aissatou says.
After learning that she had been living for some time with an STI, Aissatou decided to look for more information. Her husband encouraged her to talk to SLDS program staff, who put her in touch with a health clinic specialist. The doctor not only took care of Aissatou, he also brought in her husband for the same treatment.
Thanks to the care she received, Aissatou’s life is no longer controlled by an infection – and the impact was much bigger than managing symptoms. She had been married for eight years without being able to have children because of the STI. Now, Aissatou is grateful to be pregnant. “I am healed and fulfilled today,” she says. “I sincerely thank the SLDS team and their program for their assistance, advice, and support.”
