New Life, New Hope in Laos

High in the hills of northern Laos, Kham Ann and Lien have built a life together in a close knit community. As members of the Lao Seng tribe, they provide for their family according to the rhythm of the seasons, just as families in this village have done for generations.

But it’s a life with significant challenges. Traditional methods of rice farming result in soil erosion, leaving many families struggling to harvest enough rice to last them through the season. Access to nutrition, clean water, health care, education, and basic income opportunities is limited. And opium and methamphetamines ensnare many in a terrible cycle of addiction, including Kham Ann’s own mother, Kheo.

“World Renew has been sharing with us how drug addiction will not allow us to develop and have better lives,” Kham Ann says. “We need to cut drugs from our lives.”

Through World Renew, Kheo was able to enter a drug treatment program and receive treatment for her opium addiction. She successfully completed the program and returned to her village healthy and ready to begin a new life.

Gifts like yours make a lasting difference in the lives of people like Kheo and Kham Ann, setting their families on a new course towards hope and wholeness.
