An exciting opportunity to partner with One Day’s Wages means that World Renew – together with World Relief, and World Vision – can share God’s love with hundreds more people who are in need of vital assistance.
Since August 2017, more than 600,000 Rohingya people have fled Myanmar.
They have been killed, tortured, and assaulted because of their ethnicity and religion. They now reside in a corner of southeastern Bangladesh near Cox’s Bazar in makeshift tents and structures that are perched on the hillsides. These shelters were meant to be temporary and are not safe for cooking their households’ daily meals.
As of February 2018, just one of the refugee camps in Bangladesh, Jamtoli, was home to 48,700 Rohingya refugees. It has been challenging for those living in there to get the resources they need for their daily energy and cooking needs. They struggle to find fuel to cook and often must resort to deforestation.
Similarly, refugees from Syria and Sudan have encountered many challenges. Access to necessities such as food and water have been limited, while living conditions in the camps are cramped with risk of spreading illnesses.
On June 16 at 9 am (PST), those interested in supporting World Renew’s work with refugees are invited to Quest Church in Seattle to Stand with Refugees.
During this short gathering, participants will be encouraged to step into the shoes of refugees locally and around the world through film, storytelling, and conversations with experts in the field.
Together, attendees will learn how to take action, become advocates, and use available resources to stand in solidarity with Rohingya, Syrian, and South Sudanese refugees.
World Renew aims to raise $50,000 through this campaign in June and July 2018 (donations will be matched 1:1 by One Day’s Wages).
The funds will be used to provide 10 equipped community kitchens for Rohingya refugees in the Jamtoli refugee camp in Bangladesh.
The 10 community kitchens will include:
- ongoing support for cooking daily meals
- nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation training sessions
- a safe space for women to be together and support each other
- additional cooking stoves for 225 households, and health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene sensitization sessions to 500 households from World Renew
