This storm exacerbated the humanitarian needs caused by flooding throughout Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe that has affected families since the beginning of March. Having lost homes and possessions, many families are sleeping on the ground with no protection from the elements.
World Renew is responding to this crisis and your support is urgently needed to help reach as many people as possible. By donating today, you can help ensure that World Renew has the resources to help those most severely affected by this crisis.
World Renew has a long history of community development and disaster response work in the region. Through years of work, World Renew has developed a strong network of local church and community- based partners who are ready to help families affected by Cyclone Idai.
The World Renew team in Malawi has already visited affected communities to assess the needs. Through conversations with local community members, the team has identified that many families do not have access to essentials like food, reliable shelter, or kitchen supplies.
The majority of people affected are farmers, whose crops have been damaged or completely destroyed, leaving them with few ways to earn the income necessary to begin the difficult journey of recovery, which may take months.
Plans are already in place to provide families with blankets to stay warm and tarps to build temporary shelters until their homes are repaired. Families will also receive kitchen kits to replace the household possessions they lost.
However, the needs are far greater than we can currently meet. Your donations will help scale up the response to reach even more affected families. Urgent action is required because every day we wait thousands of families across Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe continue to sleep without a roof over their heads, and do not have reliable access to essentials like food and clean water.
