World Renew has been working in Sierra Leone since 1995.
Following the civil war of the 1990’s, rebuilding in Sierra Leone has restored much of the country’s infrastructure. Reconstruction of housing, village roads, and water and sanitation systems continues to be a major priority. However, more than 60% of the population still lives below the poverty line.
COUNTRY COVID UPDATE
In light of the Ebola outbreak of 2014, Sierra Leone’s response has been swift and comprehensive, with a 12-month state of emergency already declared. In response, World Renew’s consultant has returned home to Canada to continue all programming work remotely. In-country, World Renew’s partner staff will continue programming in the northern part of the country for as long as the government allows and doing whatever they can while practicing physical distancing from their homes. Currently, there are no COVID-19 cases reported in the region of the country where World Renew works.
