World Renew has been working in West Africa since 1985.
West Africa suffers from chronic drought, poor economic infrastructure, and weak government services in education and health. World Renew assists the local churches with an anti-harassment of school girls program and trauma healing.
COUNTRY COVID UPDATE
Countries have placed restrictions on group gatherings, required citizens to wear masks, and placed compulsory limits upon public transit in order to allow people to remain physically distant while traveling. As a whole, governments have shown themselves eager to pursue testing, monitor outbreaks, and keep the public informed.
World Renew staff continue to feel hopeful that governments are taking strong and decisive action to keep the number of cases in the region under control. World Renew’s work in the region continues, including conservation agriculture, maternal and child health, and village savings and loan, using some modified approaches that respect physical distancing. Our trauma-healing work also continues, which is disseminated through the radio and continues to inspire hope and healing in families and communities. In addition, World Renew is distributing handwashing kits throughout the region to aid governments in slowing the transmission of the virus.
