To date, World Renew’s largest COVID-19 responses are in the Middle East and in Asia, with additional responses across Latin America, Southern Africa, Western Africa and Eastern Africa to equip the communities where we serve, and our partners and staff, with personal protection equipment and emergency food.
World Renew’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is based on three pillars:
Prevention
World Renew is initiating new humanitarian responses with a specific focus on preventing the spread of the coronavirus while our existing projects are pivoting to ensure that adequate measures are taken to reduce the impact of the pandemic on our most vulnerable communities. This includes distributing information leaflets, delivering community announcements on virus prevention, and running prevention awareness campaigns in partnership with local radio stations reaching hundreds of thousands of people.
Protection
Actions are being taken to ensure that all new and existing projects minimize virus transmission in communities where World Renew is working. This includes equipping local staff, healthcare workers, and community members with masks, hygiene kits, soap, washing stations, and hand sanitizer to protect against the spread of COVID-19.
Provision
Even before this pandemic, World Renew was responding to the needs of families impacted by devastating natural disasters, conflict, drought, and climate change. This pandemic is adding an additional burden to the lives of people who already find themselves in difficult circumstances. Our humanitarian response to families in crisis must continue. Local partners are leading the way in these efforts by ensuring that life-saving assistance, including food distribution to families in refugee camps, can continue.
