“We at One Day’s Wages are overwhelmed with sadness by the suffering in Syria and Iraq and the surrounding region,” says founder Eugene Cho. “We know it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale and severity of this, but we also know that people are capable of making an amazing impact in the face of human suffering.”
A gift of $30 to World Renew, doubled by One Day’s Wages, became $60 – enough to provide emergency food for a family of six people for a month. The food baskets families receive include grain, beans, rice, canned goods, dairy products, tea, and cooking oil to sustain them through crisis.
World Renew works with an established network of local organizations in Syria that are present in four communities. These partners are supplying emergency food aid with World Renew’s support. This includes at least six months of food assistance to families and making vital connections to a local support system, for as long as possible.
The communities have a high number of households in need and are in close proximity to conflict lines, making them difficult to reach and leaving families vulnerable to food insecurity and hunger.
The families have exhausted their life savings and no longer have the means to buy food or access clean drinking water. In addition, food production in Syria has hit a record low, and prices have skyrocketed. Proper nutrition for mothers and young children is a significant concern. Every night, over nine million Syrians go to sleep hungry.
Since 2012, World Renew has been working in Syria through local partners to provide food assistance to some of the most vulnerable members of society – the elderly, disabled, women and children.
“The length of the conflict in Syria continues to present logistical and resource-related challenges for millions,” said Carol Bremer-Bennett, director of World Renew in the U.S. “World Renew is providing crucial emergency aid to Syrians who are most affected by war. In 2018, the support of our partner One Day’s Wages and the community as a whole is helping to bring life-saving food supplies to families who are the most in need.”
