Testimony to Motivate Leaders in Guatemala

Roberto Pop Cabnal is a 79-year-old farmer living in Samilha Il, Alta Verapaz. After working hard to build a new life in the community as a migrant, today Roberto is known among neighbours for using his story of faith, dedication, and community involvement to inspire leaders and young people.

When World Renew partner ADIP (Association of Integral Development) began partnering with Roberto’s village on an agricultural project, he quickly joined in the initiative. He and fellow community participants learned about crop diversification and soil conservation to improve both their crops and their families’ supply of diverse, nutritious foods.

Roberto became invested in the project. He explains, “Because of my age, many people in my community think that I can no longer learn and work on my land, but I feel so motivated that I ask God to give me a few more years of life to continue working my land and see how my work prospers. I want to be an example that age does not matter.”

He plans to continue implementing the new methods on his land to not only achieve quality crops, but to contribute to his community. His message is one of hope and gratitude: “I conclude by thanking the brothers of ADIP for making me dream again and also to all the people who live outside our country but who contribute to our development…there is a man named Roberto who prays for all of you.”

Prayers for Latin America:

  • Several of our local staff are experiencing difficult times for different reasons. We welcome your prayers for them.
  • Pray that the Lord opens the right doors. To fund ongoing programs and projects.
  • We praise God that we were finally able to host an in-person meeting for our larger team: the first since the pandemic began. What a blessing!
